“Ranas Restaurant is a dream come true for my wife Dulce and I. It may sound unbelievable, but since the very first day that we met, we promised each other that we would have a fine restaurant serving cuisine from Mexico City … this colorful and flavorful food is a strong passion that lives inside of every fiber of our soul.
After working very hard and saving as much money as we could, we moved to San Diego and began our search for a place to call home for Ranas Restaurant. We found our current location in Spring Valley/Casa de Oro and immediately fell in love with the community. It felt as though it was our destiny!
But the landlord who owns the building didn’t want us to open our restaurant here. Not because he didn’t like us, but because five different restaurants had failed to stay in business over the course of two years here, and we had even less money to start than they did. He didn’t want us to crush our dream. But, Dulce and I were determined to make our dream come true.
Looking back 5 amazing years later, Ranas Restaurant is still going stronger than ever serving fine Mexico City cuisine to our friends from San Diego and around California. We are proud to be a family owned and operated business. Our friends and customers are great people, and we couldn’t be happier. One day, Dulce and I know we will be blessed to operate other locations around San Diego, cooking up even more great food for more great people.
